Saudi Food and Drug Authority launch drug safety investigation
2012-03-19 - | Saudi Arabia | Latest News - Saudi Arabia: The Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) has launched an investigation into the safety of certain drugs manufactured by a UAE-headquartered pharmaceutical firm, Saudi Gazette has reported. The move follows a warning from the American Food and Drug Authority (FDA) that some of the contaminated drugs had entered the US, the regulator said. During an inspection of the factory, the FDA had found that the unnamed company was not following sterilisation standards on one of its production lines for intravenous medicines. There was a threat of the drugs being contaminated with bacteria, it said. "The Saudi Food and Drug Authority is coordinating with the supervisory authority in the UAE and the Central Committee for Registering Medicines to take the necessary measures," SFDA said.
