Saudi Arabia may award rail bids in 2013
2012-04-25 - AMEinfo.com | Saudi Arabia | Latest News - Saudi Arabia: Saudi Arabia's Royal Commission has said the government may award bids to build a railway connecting its petrochemical and mining hubs on the Gulf early next year, Bloomberg has reported. Saudi Railway Co may begin work on a 335-kilometre railway linking Jubail, Ras al-Khair and Dammam in 2013, said Ahmed al-Balawi, the commission's general manager for technical affairs at Jubail and Yanbu. The commission has postponed plans to expand the King Fahad industrial port at Jubail for at least five years, al-Balawi noted. "In 2008, we were rushing to expand the port but when the global recession hit exporters, we reconsidered our plans," he said.
